a*voyce clothing

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!! Yea, I know I know... "It's January 9th, it's not 'New Year' anymore! Aren't you a little late!?" Well, considering there are 365 days in a year, and we're less than ten days in, It still feels NEW to me!! I'm also the kind of person who celebrates "Birthday Week", so why not stretch this happy-new-year thing out a bit? In fact, that might be one of my New Year's resolutions.... to always over-celebrate things for an extended, inappropriate amount of time. That sounds fun.

ANYWAY, It's needless to say that I'm very excited for what 2013 has in store!! There were a lot cool events and gigs in 2012 that I'm still reflecting on, and a lot of little seeds planted that I'm waiting to see bloom. Although I don't make a habit of trying to predict the future, there are at least a couple of things I know we can look forward to in 2013, things I'm super excited about!

One thing I know we can expect is to FINALLY get that look at the new A*VOYCE collection I've been working on! Within the next few months I'll be giving you the first peeks at what I've been sweating out in the sweat shop lately. Then, throughout the rest of the year, you can expect new ways to check out the entire new collection, an updated website, new lookbook, new ways of ordering, and info about some cool events that are in the works!

Another fun thing to look out for is my episode of MIKE & MOLLY which is set to air this coming Monday, January 14th! I shot the episode before the holidays and have been waiting patiently to get the official air date. Of course I will post again about that with all the info, but there was another fun element to shooting that episode... a little excursion into the life of my alter-ego... you'll be seeing more about that soon, too ;)

Well, here's hoping 2013 is great year for all of us! Keep Celebrating!!!

Urban Original

Hey There Everyone! I would like to introduce you to Ashley Bryant. She is a super talented graphic designer who recently created a branding guide for the website www.UrbanOG.com (which I just so happen to LoVe, and I shop at a little too often :p ) and she used MY pictures for her presentation!!!

I love this and I  think she did an awesome job... Go check out more of her work at www.AshleyBryantDesign.com

Back in the Sweatshop

It's that time again... time to get my butt back in front of my sewing machine, and sweat it out in the sweatshop ....

I'm really, really excited about my next collection, it's AMAZING (inside my own head, that is) so now I have the task of making it a reality... this is the fun part, but I want to take things up a notch this time, take A*VOYCE CLOTHING to the next level...so if that means more hours in the sweatshop, then so be it.

Did this first prototype come out good enough?

I'm a frayed not! (har har)

I'm hard at work.... but I'll keep you posted as to how things are turning out...

A*VOYCE 2.0 !!!

Avenue Q at the Pantages

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the opening night of Avenue Q at the Pantages Theater. I had NEVER seen the show (can you believe it!?) so I was excited to have the chance to finally see it!

The show itself is hilarious... there really is something funny about puppets swearing at each other and singing songs like "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist"... the show is brilliant, the cast was fantastic, and the entire experience at the Pantages was great ... If you get the chance you, really should try to catch it!

What I wore on the red carpet:

White Denim Strapless Ruffle Dress by A*VOYCE CLOTHING;

Black Express Blazer; Silver Cuff;

Silver Feather Earrings by F21;

Bright Orange Lipstick in "Manderina" by Milani

Le Poissons

I knew it would only be a matter of time before my obsession with collective fashion websites like LOOKBOOK, Chictopia, and Weardrobe would take me over...

and so it begins.... I got dressed today, took a picture of myself, then posted it all over the interweb.

It's all over folks.

I tested the waters a while back by posting some old shots of my a*voyce designs, but that doesn't really count when "What are you wearing today?" is really the question at hand....and how did today inspire you....

Today I was inspired by this vintage fish necklace that has been kicking around my jewelry drawer for years, it's just so unique. ....also the segments clink around and jingle when I walk... so that's fun. And for some reason the turban headband, cat eyes, and red lips made me feel about as French as my last name.... OUI OUI !!!

What I'm wearing today:

DIY turban-style headband (it literally took 5 minutes to make! check it)

Thrifted Black Shell Top

Vintage Segmented Fish Necklace

Old-Ass ripped jeans : Urban Outfitters

Black Platform Pumps c/o Santee Alley

it's 2011. wow.

It's the start of a brand. new. year. wow.

It really is true that time flies faster and faster as the years go by...and yes, 2010 FLEW by! It was a year that had it's ups and downs, to be sure, But I have to admit that with all it's ups and downs, this year was notably better than the year before in a lot of ways, and man... that is all anyone can ask for, am I right?

When last year started I was filled with a renewed sense of empowerment, and a feeling that there is SO much I can control, SO much that is always possible....and I made it a point to do things, BE things, I wanted to do (and BE) whether someone said I could or not!

I think the most drastic of examples is the launching of my clothing line, a*voyce clothing. It was something I always wanted to do and last year I decided to take the leap of faith and JUST DO IT! There is so much more that it has in store, too... I'm so excited for what 2011 will bring for a*voyce!

Part of the reason why I felt so inspired at the start of 2010 was due to the weekly phone calls I made to my Aunt Eileen...every week... for almost ALL of 2009... She was a compassionate, motivating, validating source of inspiration for me and I credit a lot of the changes I made in my life in 2010 to our talks... those talks that I will always remember and cherish...

(me and my aunt, Thanksgiving 2010)

My family lost my Aunt Eileen two days before Christmas, and although it was devastating... unbelievably heartbreaking.... I want to go into 2011 remembering all the wonderful things she taught me about what is really possible....

I have to say, this is kinda my favorite time of year. I love the sense of renewal, the feeling that you can change anything, DO anything, that refreshing feeling that whatever you didn't like about last year is officially OVER and a new year is about to begin! I love it!

I'm the queen of New Years Resolutions! I absolutely love them. I honestly have a list (a looong list) of things I want this year to bring! And, why not!? It isn't ever going to be possible unless you first THINK it can be possible!

my Aunt used to always ask me:

If not NOW, then WHEN?

If not ME, then WHO!?

I'm excited about 2011, and all the possibilities is has in store... and I closed out 2010  being grateful... for my wonderful husband, my amazing parents and family, for all my beautiful friends who mean SO much to me... and for all the great things I have in my life....

OH, and I am also extremely grateful for the resurgence of this gem...(which my mom found somewhere in the Schlink vault) An actual video of my FIRST TV Commercial EVER! My introduction to show biz... I was 3... and super cute. This is a classic for all christmases to come (or not). I present to you... My Ann&Hope commercial!!  Starring Ava (Schlink) Gaudet, 3 years old, and My mom. Playing... my mom.

Miss West Hollywood Latina in A*VOYCE

Check out Miss West Hollywood Latina, Esmeralda Leon, wearing a custom dress by A*VOYCE

A few months ago, Esmeralda Leon contacted me to design a dress for her to wear for the interview portion of the Miss California Latina Pageant. She needed something sexy, but sophisticated, something classy, but something that would also set her apart. What better than a one-of-a-kind dress made especially for her!

Esmeralda has a very athletic body type, so she wanted something that would make her look more curvy, I knew the asymmetrical s-curve ruffle accent on the a*voyce Strapless Ruffle Dress would do just that. We customized the design even more to suit her needs....

I lengthened the hem to just above the knee, chose a beautiful Navy Blue fabric, and designed a custom cap sleeve to make the dress more buisness-appropriate for her interview. I think she looked absolutely STUNNING in this dress!

What's even better? Esmeralda was the RUNNER UP for Miss California Latina!!

Congrats, Esmeralda! Let's do this again sometime ;)

the BREASTival: a Gift-Raiser of Oncologic Proportions

On December 13th, A*VOYCE CLOTHING will be sponsoring a prize at a benefit concert to support a friend's battle with her cancer treatment costs......

In 2004-2005 Mimi Ferraro and I spent a short time as roommates while we were on the RENT National Tour. Shortly after the tour ended we shared something else, without even realizing it... a cancer diagnosis. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and Mimi; breast cancer. We are both extremely fortunate to have good prognoses, *we are both going to be OK*, but now Mimi has to deal with the next 5 years of treatments, medications, follow-ups, and all the costs that go along with it....

SO... Mimi decided to take matters into her own hands and ask for some help from her circle of friends and all the loving, wonderful people in our community, and is having a benefit concert in her own honor!!

Performers include Rebecca Naomi Jones (another RENT tour alum), Sheri Sanders, Anne Fraser Thomas, Vicky Modica, Mimi Ferraro, LaDonna Burns (our beautiful "Seasons of Love" soloist on the RENT tour), Matt McMahan, Chris Wade, Leah Gerstel, and Emily McNamara.

Of course I jumped at the chance to donate a piece from the A*VOYCE line for Mimi's raffle. After all,  the cause hits close to home, and I'm happy to do what I can to help!

(here is the piece that's up for grabs!! The prize also includes a 15% OFF coupon for their next A*VOYCE order!!)

Other raffle prizes include: coaching sessions with top New York theater teachers, dance classes, restaurant gift certificates, and clothing items from high-end designers.

Here's what you need to know if you want to pitch in and help a sister out:
