C.A.R.E. Rescue LA

Ever since I was a kid I've had a passion for helping animals. I was always looking for ways to feel like I was doing my part to help the cause. Now, I have an amazing outlet to help... Over the past year or so I have been working with a few of my friends & fellow animal lovers to establish our very own non-profit rescue group. We have worked hard to create C.A.R.E. Rescue LA, and we couldn't be more proud!!!

It all started for me when my good friend, and now founder & chairman of C.A.R.E., Kelle King, contacted me to see if I would be willing to foster a dog that was almost out of time at a local shelter. I decided to foster Brody, and I  just couldn't get over how cool he was... friendly, loving, ADOPTABLE... and the thought that he may not have had even 24 hours to live if we didn't step in was just heartbreaking. I knew I had to help as many animals like Brody as possible.

This is Brody, my first foster, and one of CARE's first success stories... He is now a spoiled pup in a loving home!

Since we started rescuing a little over a year ago, we have saved the lives of over 30 dogs and cats, by pulling them out of high kill shelters or dangerous situations and placing them in safe, loving homes. It's hard work, but we feel compelled to help these poor animals who are running out of time.

Here in LA, the overpopulation of our high kill shelters is a HUGE problem. Uninformed owners, lack of spay & neuter, a big stray population.. all contribute to the high number of animals killed before they have a chance at life. As a new rescue group, this problem feels really overwhelming to us. We're helping one animal at a time, and though it seems like it's only scratching the surface, it means EVERYTHING to the animals we know we've given a second chance to!

The BEST part of this work? The success stories!!! And we've had so many... Check out some of our success stories HERE.

Being able to see a dog who may have had only hours to live, now thriving in a loving home is probably the best feeling in the world (if you ask me :) ) and it is definitely what keeps us going!

The one thing we know for sure is that we can't do this alone. We're currently trying to expand our network of animal lovers who want to help! We are always looking for fosters (fostering SAVES LIVES!) volunteers, forever homes, and of course, donations.

One of the most important things you can do to help this cause is to become a FOSTER. You are the safe haven for a pet escaping a deadly shelter before they find there forever home. You become the difference between life & death for these animals! Learn more about C.A.R.E.'s foster program HERE

ONE MIC STAND @ RG Club

I'm happy to announce that the open mic night I host, ONE MIC STAND, has found a NEW home at RG Club in Venice!!

Our First event at the new venue will be THURSDAY, APRIL 11th!!

We had a really successful run at Whiskey Blue LA, with a lot of our musicians telling us that ONE MIC STAND was their favorite open mic in LA! (sweet!!) So, I'm really happy that we can continue to support our amazing community of musicians with a positive, fun place to perform. RG Club is a great new venue, and a perfect spot for OMS. On most nights of the week it's a home for Jazz in the Venice area, and it's building itself up to be a well respected new venue with a great vibe and great music. We can't wait to move in!

I will jump off the night with my own set at 8pm sharp before leading into our amazing line-up of musicians. There's a little something for everyone on our roster, it's going to rock (literally AND figuratively) I have no doubt! As always, we will record video of our entire show to post great performances on our YouTube channel, AND will have a photographer snapping pro-quality pics of every magic moment.

If you're in the LA Area come check us out!! THURSDAY, APRIL 11th and then Every SECOND Thursday of the month!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR : 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!! Yea, I know I know... "It's January 9th, it's not 'New Year' anymore! Aren't you a little late!?" Well, considering there are 365 days in a year, and we're less than ten days in, It still feels NEW to me!! I'm also the kind of person who celebrates "Birthday Week", so why not stretch this happy-new-year thing out a bit? In fact, that might be one of my New Year's resolutions.... to always over-celebrate things for an extended, inappropriate amount of time. That sounds fun.

ANYWAY, It's needless to say that I'm very excited for what 2013 has in store!! There were a lot cool events and gigs in 2012 that I'm still reflecting on, and a lot of little seeds planted that I'm waiting to see bloom. Although I don't make a habit of trying to predict the future, there are at least a couple of things I know we can look forward to in 2013, things I'm super excited about!

One thing I know we can expect is to FINALLY get that look at the new A*VOYCE collection I've been working on! Within the next few months I'll be giving you the first peeks at what I've been sweating out in the sweat shop lately. Then, throughout the rest of the year, you can expect new ways to check out the entire new collection, an updated website, new lookbook, new ways of ordering, and info about some cool events that are in the works!

Another fun thing to look out for is my episode of MIKE & MOLLY which is set to air this coming Monday, January 14th! I shot the episode before the holidays and have been waiting patiently to get the official air date. Of course I will post again about that with all the info, but there was another fun element to shooting that episode... a little excursion into the life of my alter-ego... you'll be seeing more about that soon, too ;)

Well, here's hoping 2013 is great year for all of us! Keep Celebrating!!!

One Mic Stand

I'm so excited to be hosting ONE MIC STAND, the very FIRST open mic night at Whiskey Blue LA! Our first night is this THURSDAY, February 2nd! Here is some info and a few guidelines for how the night will go…. lets have some fun and make some MUSIC!!!

GUIDELINES: Sign Up: You must SIGN UP to perform! You can contact me via email or Facebook to put your name on the list, OR you can sign up when you get there. The sign up list is FIRST COME FIRST SERVE, and that includes email sign ups… this means, if you are the FIRST one to email me, you are FIRST on the list and so on… for this reason its it's best that you get there at 7:45/8pm SHARP to see where you are on the list! If you are not there when you're called, I'll call the next person…if you come late you are free to sign up again at the end of the list and I will get to you if I can!

Performance Time: When it's your time to shine, you are allowed 2 SONGS OR 10 MINUTES, whichever comes first! This is to give you a fair amount of time to do yo' thang, but ALSO leave enough time for everyone else to get their shot to perform too. I will be strict with this. :/

Backline and Equipment info: This is an ACOUSTIC open mic night. We do NOT have a drum kit, and we do not have enough gear to support an entire band. We DO have a keyboard available to use, mics, and amps for guitarists.

Your Host: I will be your HOST for the night! That means that I will be the one minding the sign-up list, calling up our performers, and keeping track of our 2-songs-or-10-minutes rule. It ALSO means that I will be doing a few songs (with my friend David Mendoza on Keys) to warm up the crowd at the beginning of the night. After our short set of tunes, I turn the night over to YOU!

Parking, Drinks, and The W Hotel: There is NO cover for this event BUT we encourage you to DRINK, EAT, BE MERRY (and TIP your servers & bartenders!! :D ) We will have drink & food specials as well as discounted VALET PARKING!

PLEASE feel free to contact me with questions, and contact me if you want to SIGN UP to perform! ava@avagaudet.com

PLEASE forward to your friends! The more people we have involved the more likely it is that this night will continue! Let's make some MUSIC!!!!!

Concert for Victor

Tomorrow night, Tuesday, September 13th, I am honored to be performing in a benefit concert which will take place at the Carrie Hamilton Theatre at The Pasadena Playhouse at 7:30 PM. All proceeds go to the Rodriguez Family Care Fund...

This concert will benefit 23-year-old Victor Rodriguez and his family. In June 2011, Sacramento newlyweds Victor and Crystal Rodriguez went parasailing on the last day of their honeymoon in the Bahamas. At a height of approximately 200 feet their harness snapped, and they fell into the ocean. Crystal was killed, and Victor suffered severe injuries. Neither of them had health or life insurance. They had only been married 12 days.

The story is heartbreaking, and sadly the battle continues for Victor. He is currently hospitalized due to complications from the accident, and won't be able to attend the concert in person, as he had planned. We hope this night of performances can lift his spirit, ease his financial burdens, and provide him with hope, love and support.

The line up of performers is incredible, including Melora Hardin (THE OFFICE / Broadway’s Chicago), Anneliese van der Pol (That’s So Raven’s / Broadway’s Beauty & the Beast), Monika Beal (Long Beach Opera’s Philip Glass’ Akhnaten), 30 Rock’s Todd Buonopane (Broadway’s The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee), Hart of Dixie’s Deborah S. Craig (Broadway’s The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee), Devin Kelly, Charley Izabella King (Broadway’s The Producers), Leigh Ann Larkin (Broadway’s Gypsy & A Little Night Music), High School Musical: Get in the Picture’s Jennifer Malenke (Broadway’s Into The Woods - Revival) and Jacquelynn Ware, and the night will be headlined by Emmy winner, Wane Brady.

If you're in the LA area and can come out to this special event, please show your support!! Tickets are still available, and your contribution will be so appreciated!!

Full-price tickets are $99 including admission to the post-show reception, or $45 for the show only (both include a $4.00 ticketing fee).

*Special priced tickets will be available until 12pm Tomorrow here: http://www.goldstar.com/events/pasadena-ca/concert-for-victor And you can purchase tickets at pasadenaplayhouse.org until 6pm, or pay-what-you-can at the door

the TWIST experience...so far

Ok, first of all... it has been SO LONG since I have blogged! Wowzers! I guess I have just been so hyper-focused on my work in TWIST that I've been ignoring this, leaving countless stupid videos unshared, a multitude of adorable outfits undocumented, and some truly incredible experiences unexpressed! This must stop TODAY! There is so much to talk about, here's the abbreviated version.... I have been happily dedicated to TWIST for these past couple of months...trying to enjoy each moment before its over, and it will be over SOON! Just 5 more performances to go before our run at The Pasadena Playhouse is over! (there's still time to get tickets - GO HERE)

TWIST went into previews on June 14th, at which point we made some major changes to the show (all for the better) and in the end it all came together in such an incredible way! By the time opening weekend came around we were all SO excited and proud of what we had accomplished, and we just wanted to share it with the world!

Opening Night Gala (for more pictures of opening weekend go to HERE)

We've had a great responce from our community, Click here to hear what people are saying about the show:

Here are a few V.I.P's that came to check us out:

Kristin Chenoweth

Louis Farrakhan (really!?)

Adam Lambert (with my fellow TWIST cast mate, Holly Hyman)

And....just when I thought it couldn't get any better, I met my idol, my favorite artist of all time and my musical inspiration,

the one and ONLY

STEVIE WONDER!!

aaaaaaahhhhh!

* * * *

I'm so grateful for this experience... to have had the chance to work with the amazing Miss Debbie Allen, and to have met, worked with, and become *friends* with this incredible cast, crew, and creative team!!

I'm looking forward to this last week of shows, and hoping for a long future for

Thanks For Tuning In!

I just want to say THANK YOU to all of my friends, family, and fans who tuned in to watch me on N.C.I.S last night! I can't believe how many sweet texts, facebook comments, messages & tweets I got after the show aired! Thank you, you guys are awesome. :)

(Look! It's the back of my head!)

I've been really busy the past few days;  rehearsing for the Rock &Roll Freedom Show tonight (more on that later), table read #2 for a new musical I've been a part of, preparing for auditions, all while doing a massive spring cleaning around the house... I've been running around like crazy!! In fact, as of the time of this post I still haven't had a second to watch the episode myself!

I came across this clip posted by a fan of the show, and it just so happens to be my scene! Sweet.  So, in case you missed it.... NOW, on to TONIGHT!! Tonight I have the privilege of performing with a very talented artist name Shaley Tuin at The Key Club on the Sunset Strip. It's part of the Rock & Roll Freedom Show, and it should be a really good time! Her back up band consists of The Cold Chills stars: Rob Gaudet on drums and Ferrari Watts slappin' da bass, as well as Kris Moser on guitar and lil 'ol me sanging some background vox. Come on out tonight, LA folks! I want to see you there! Click Here info:

N.C.I.S

Today I worked on an upcoming episode of CBS's N.C.I.S.  It was a really fun guest star role, and I had a BLAST on-set with the super cool cast and crew! These people are really awesome....so fun and laid back, they operate like a well-oiled machine (as you could imagine they would after 8 seasons!) and were so welcoming to me!!! (as I'm sure they are to all the guest star actors coming and going on their set) It was totally fun, and I loved it...

I'm not sure when the episode will air, but to be SURE I will let you all know when I know :) stay tuned.... ...as a side note, I came across the REAL N.C.I.S. website (as in, NOT the TV show) and it's pretty interesting... check it out

Miss West Hollywood Latina in A*VOYCE

Check out Miss West Hollywood Latina, Esmeralda Leon, wearing a custom dress by A*VOYCE

A few months ago, Esmeralda Leon contacted me to design a dress for her to wear for the interview portion of the Miss California Latina Pageant. She needed something sexy, but sophisticated, something classy, but something that would also set her apart. What better than a one-of-a-kind dress made especially for her!

Esmeralda has a very athletic body type, so she wanted something that would make her look more curvy, I knew the asymmetrical s-curve ruffle accent on the a*voyce Strapless Ruffle Dress would do just that. We customized the design even more to suit her needs....

I lengthened the hem to just above the knee, chose a beautiful Navy Blue fabric, and designed a custom cap sleeve to make the dress more buisness-appropriate for her interview. I think she looked absolutely STUNNING in this dress!

What's even better? Esmeralda was the RUNNER UP for Miss California Latina!!

Congrats, Esmeralda! Let's do this again sometime ;)

the BREASTival: a Gift-Raiser of Oncologic Proportions

On December 13th, A*VOYCE CLOTHING will be sponsoring a prize at a benefit concert to support a friend's battle with her cancer treatment costs......

In 2004-2005 Mimi Ferraro and I spent a short time as roommates while we were on the RENT National Tour. Shortly after the tour ended we shared something else, without even realizing it... a cancer diagnosis. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, and Mimi; breast cancer. We are both extremely fortunate to have good prognoses, *we are both going to be OK*, but now Mimi has to deal with the next 5 years of treatments, medications, follow-ups, and all the costs that go along with it....

SO... Mimi decided to take matters into her own hands and ask for some help from her circle of friends and all the loving, wonderful people in our community, and is having a benefit concert in her own honor!!

Performers include Rebecca Naomi Jones (another RENT tour alum), Sheri Sanders, Anne Fraser Thomas, Vicky Modica, Mimi Ferraro, LaDonna Burns (our beautiful "Seasons of Love" soloist on the RENT tour), Matt McMahan, Chris Wade, Leah Gerstel, and Emily McNamara.

Of course I jumped at the chance to donate a piece from the A*VOYCE line for Mimi's raffle. After all,  the cause hits close to home, and I'm happy to do what I can to help!

(here is the piece that's up for grabs!! The prize also includes a 15% OFF coupon for their next A*VOYCE order!!)

Other raffle prizes include: coaching sessions with top New York theater teachers, dance classes, restaurant gift certificates, and clothing items from high-end designers.

Here's what you need to know if you want to pitch in and help a sister out:

Love Bites

Last week I filmed a guest star role on the new NBC series LOVE BITES!! The show is described as, Irreverent and poignant, Love Bites pulls back the curtain to expose modern romance - in a way you've never seen before.I had an absolute BLAST filming this and I can tell already that this series is going to be great! The show is a mid-season replacement so it's set to debut sometime this winter, as soon as I know when my episode will be on, I'll be sure to let you all know!!
